SAFETY CODE

GENERAL:

I will not fly my model aircraft in sanctioned events, air shows or model flying demonstrations until it has been proven to be airworthy by having been previously successfully flight tested.

1 will give right-of-way and avoid flying in the proximity of full scale aircraft.

I will abide by the safety rules for the flying site and I will not willfully and deliberately fly my models in a careless, reckless and/or dangerous manner.

A straight line has been established in front of which all flying takes place with the other side for spectators. only those persons essential to the flight operations are to be permitted on the flying side of the line; all others must be on the spectator side. Flying over the spectator side of the line is prohibited, unless beyond the control of the pilot(s). In any case the maximum permissible takeoff weight of the model is 55 pounds.

Under all circumstances, if my model weighs over 20 pounds, a single straight line must be established, one side of which is for flying and the other side for spectators. Only those persons accredited by an appropriate official as necessary for flight operations or as having duties or functions relating to the proper operation of the flying site are to be permitted on the flying side of the line.

I will not fly my model unless it is identified with my name and address on or in the model.

1 will not operate models with metal-bladed propellers or with gaseous boosts, in which gases other than air enter their internal combustion engine(s); nor will I operate models with extremely hazardous fuels such as those containing tetranitomethane or hydrazine.

I will not operate models with pyrotechnics (any device that explodes, burns, or propels a projectile of any kind) including, but not limited to, rockets, explosive bombs dropped from models, smoke bombs, all explosive gases (such as hydrogen-filled balloons), ground mounted devices launching a projectile. The only exceptions permitted are rockets flown in accordance with the national model rocketry safety code or those permanently attached (as per JATO use). In any case, models using rocket motors as a primary means of propulsion are limited to a maximum weight of 3.3 pounds and a g series motor. Note: a model aircraft is defined as an aircraft with or without engine, not able to carry a human being.1 will not operate any turbo jet engine (axial or centrifugal flow) unless I have obtained a special waiver for such specific operations from the appropriate authority. I will abide by any restrictions) imposed for such operation by them. (note: this does not apply to ducted fan models using piston engines or electric motors.)

I will not consume alcoholic beverages prior to, nor during, participation in any model operations.

RADIO CONTROL:

I will have completed a successful radio equipment ground range check before the first flight of a new or repaired model.

1 will not fly my model aircraft in the presence of spectators until I become a qualified flier, unless assisted by an experienced helper.

1 will perform my initial turn after takeoff away from the pit or spectator areas, and I will not thereafter fly over pit or spectator areas unless beyond my control. 1 will operate my model using only radio control frequencies currently allowed by the federal communications commission. (only properly licensed amateurs are authorized to operate equipment on amateur band frequencies.)

ORGANIZED RADIO CONTROLLED RACING EVENT:

An RC racing event, whether or not an AMA Rule Book event, is one in which    model   aircraft compete in  flight over a prescribed course with the objective of         finishing the course faster to determine the winner.

A. In every organized racing event in which contestants, callers and officials are on the course:

1. All officials, callers and contestants must properly wear helmets which are OSHA, DOT, ANSI, SNELL or NOCSAE approved or comparable standard while on the race course;

2. All officials occupying safety cages must wear protective eyewear; 3. All course judge officials located on the course must be properly located and positioned inside barrier cages that meet the AMA approved RC Racing Barrier Cage requirements set forth in EC actions of October 24, 1998;

3. "On the course" is defined to mean any area beyond the pilot/staging area where actual flying takes place.

B. I will not fly my model aircraft in any organized racing event which does not comply with paragraph A above or which allows models over 20 pounds unless that competition event is AMA sanctioned.

FREE FLIGHT:

1. I will not launch my model aircraft unless at least 100 feet downwind of spectators and automobile parking.

2. I will not fly my model unless the launch area is clear of all persons except my mechanic and officials.

3. 1 will employ the use of an adequate device in flight to extinguish any fuses on the model after it has completed its function.

CONTROL LINE:

1. I will subject my complete control system (including safety thong, where applicable) to an inspection and pull test prior to flying.

2. I will assure that my flying area is safely clear of all utility wires or poles.

3. I will assure that my flying area is safely clear of all non-essential participants and spectators before permitting my engine to be started.

SAFETY PLEDGE

1. In order to fly at any facility operated by the RMFM, you must be a member in good standing with RMFM which administers the rules governing the RMFM flying site. This signed SAFETY PLEDGE form must be on file with the Secretary. You must also be prepared to provide proof of AMA membership if asked.

2. All flying must be in accordance with the RMFM SAFETY CODE.

3. RC pilots MUST use the frequency control board.

a) Six aircraft maximum in the air at any one time.

b) Six frequency pins maximum on the frequency board at any one time.

c) All transmitters will be impounded when not in use.

d) Remove frequency pin at the conclusion of each flight.

4. A maximum noise level shall be in compliance with AMA guidelines. Mufflers will be used on all engines where possible/practical. (Note: some older CL engines may be damaged by their use.)

5. RC pilots will fly only from the 10 designated flying positions.

a) Pilots should fly from the designated flying positions. If, for safety purposes,

the pilot elects to stand near the runway for either takeoff or landing, he or she will move back from the edge of the runway immediately after takeoff or landing.

b) Call out LANDING in a loud voice. Call out ON-THE-RUNWAY. (Landings have right of way unless DEAD STICK is called.)

c) Only start and immediately taxi out from the pit area.

d) Do not pit or work on model for any reason on the taxi or runway areas.

e) Do not run engines except in the pit area.

6. Spectators must remain behind the pit area line unless specifically invited forward by a pilot.

a) Children and animals should never wander unattended or unleashed in the pit or flying areas.

b) When CL aircraft are present, spectators are prohibited from entering CL pit area.

7. When flying at any RMFM facility pilots will always have a buddy and/or some kind of emergency communication equipment.

8. Before flying an untested aircraft at any RMFM facility RC pilots will conduct a proper "Range Test" at several different RPM settings. CL pilots will perform a pull test on their aircraft.

9. Before flying any aircraft at any RMFM facility each pilot will check for proper operation of all control functions. CL pilots will perform a pull test on their aircraft before each flying session.

10. When flying RC at any RMFM facility never fly your aircraft behind a line tangent to the designated flying positions (pilot boxes) thereby keeping a safe distance from the pits, ramada, and other hazardous areas. All RC flying shall be conducted from the center of the runway out away from the pilot boxes.

11. Only pilots, coaches, or event officials may enter the 80' Flight Circle while a CL aircraft is airborne.

12. CL pilots are constrained to stay within the confines of the Pilot Circle while a CL aircraft is airborne.

13. As a matter of courtesy, CL pilots should check to ensure that CL activity will not interfere with RC activity.
